April 28, 2004. One week in January 2004 on national TV station and one newspaper "Ekstra Bladet" covered stories about insufficient cleaning and fraud with hygienic tests and control procedures in Danish abattoirs. A video documented the situation, but the abattoirs and their cleaning partner argued, that it was shot before the cleaning was completed. Official control procedures were intensified and 89 errors were revealed in one night including mould on the aprons used in the abattoir, which exports meat to the Japanese market. The abattoirs and their cleaning partner threatened that they would sue the media, but this has not happened. In a leading article Ekstra Bladet recommended a boycott of products from the farmer owned Danish Crown abattoir group, and has repeated this twice since. See screen shots from the video here Feb 18: The cleaning partner ISS now sues the TV station TV 2 and EkstraBladet for defamation. It is no secret, that Danish pigs infected with salmonella DT104 are not distracted, but are used to produce canned and frozen ready made dinner dishes. The animals must be slaughtered in special abattoirs and the meat must be cooked before it is sold. Tests have shown 1% are positive to the salmonella DT104. To boost profits Danish Crown has applied three times in three years for allowance to make bacon from the bodies of pigs infected with salmonella DT 104. The application has been rejected.
