April 28, 2004. Danish DR1 TV news said that meat, which is rejected in other foreign markets because of high levels of samonella or other contamination, is reeksported to and sold on the British market. 18 tons rejected in Sweden was reexported to GB in 2003. News bulletin from Danish national news on Danish Radio Channel 1 yesterday said that Danish exported meat which is rejected by Nordic authorities, is either re-imported to Denmark and sold here or re-exported to other markets, for example in Britain.
A news flash last week caused the government to make a hasty agreement with with representatives of the meat industry that all reimported meat should be heated or smoked before it is sold on the Danish market. The agreement does not include foreign markets.
British consumers are not aware that meat in the cooling counters has been rejected by health inspectors in other countries, because there is no labelling about this.
